This report briefly reviews and compares the performance of the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS lens against two other excellent performing Canon zoom lenses: 1) EF 24-70mm f/2.8L; and 2) EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS.
The Canon 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is an optically superb lens in a lightweight, light-duty plastic barrel. So long as you don't plan on shooting in pouring rain for hours or otherwise physically abusing it, this 24-105mm is an extraordinarily good and handy lens for all Canon EOS cameras of every format, especially full-frame.

The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens is a middle weight at 22.8 oz (645g). At 3.3" x 4.4" (83.5mm x 110.6mm), the 17-55mm IS becomes the largest EF-S lens to date. It is, however, a very nice size/weight to carry around and balances well on compatible camera bodies.

The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is a real walk-around general purpose zoom. Not to big, not to heavy, IS, very nice reach and good IQ. I like it more than the 24-70 F2.8L, witch is big and no IS. I bought this zoom when it came out ans still you it with lots of pleasure. Second hand you can buy it real cheap.

A superb general-purpose lens, Canonās EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM is equally at home on the EOS 400D and the āfull frameā EOS 5D cameras, giving a focal length range equivalent to 38.4 to 168mm on the former. Compact for its specifications, it is relatively light and comfortable to use as well as being very well built.
RECOMMENDED for professional sports, news, landscape and portrait use, or for use on film where you actually need f/2.8. Otherwise, the Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS II does the same thing in a much smaller package, and I prefer the 100-400mm II as being more useful on digital. for all formats, including 35mm and full-frame.

However, the issue is greatly reduced at f/5.6 and not a major issue beyond.
